Reason

On 11 July at 14:54, the Dubrovnik County Firefighting Operations Centre received a report of a major wildfire on the island of Korčula, in the Kapja area between the municipalities of Blato and Smokvica. Due to the severity of the situation and strong winds, which caused the fire to spread rapidly, all available ground firefighting resources from the island were deployed, including the Blato, Smokvica, Korčula and Vela Luka Volunteer Fire Departments. A total of 64 firefighters. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping was requested to provide initial rough estimation, wildfire extent and damage assessment emergency mapping.
